Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a technique that targets the fascia, a connective tissue or lining around muscles. This involves gentle, sustained pressure to stretch and elongate the fascia. It is similar to stretching a muscle but only involves the connective tissue.
When the soft tissue, or fascia, becomes restricted through trauma, stress, overuse, infection, or inactivity it can result in pain, diminished blood flow and surrounding muscle tension. Car accident victims often experience this kind of injury. The technique can be very useful, especially when a client is sensitive to deeper pressure and has experienced a loss of motion and restriction.
Direct Myofascial Release involves a deeper, sustained pressure similar to deep tissue techniques. Practitioners often use elbows, knuckles and other tools to stretch the fascia and break up deeper adhesions such as scar tissue.
